Eighteen foreign clubs have so far confirmed participation in the tournament at the Sikh Union grounds in Nairobi.

Lakers Hockey Club missed automatic qualification to this year's Africa Cup for Hockey Clubs Championship having finished third in the Kenya Hockey Union, KHU Women’s Premier League last season.

The Kisumu-based side were banking on Amira Sailers to beat record Kenyan champions Blazers in their final league fixture last week for them to finish second and bag a direct ticket, but that didn't happen.

Sailors, who finished second from bottom, lost 2-0, guaranteeing Blazers a spot in the continental championship slated for February 13-19 in Nairobi.

Nonetheless, Lakers have requested the Local Organising Committee (LOC) to consider including them.

"As a host country, we stand a chance of fielding more teams especially if other countries fail to send representatives. We're positive our request is going to be considered," said Lakers Team Manager John Paul Otieno.

Eighteen foreign clubs have so far confirmed participation in the tournament at the Sikh Union grounds in Nairobi.

The event was previously scheduled to be hosted at the Kenton College in Kileleshwa before it was moved to Sikh Union due to the unavailability of the facility as the students will be in session.

Record champions El Sharkia of Egypt lead the foreign legion alongside compatriots Zamalek, Exchequers and Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) of Ghana, Hippos Hockey Club of Zimbabwe, Kada Stars and Police Machine of Nigeria as well as Wananchi and Weatherheads of Uganda and Moshi Khalsa from Tanzania.

Defending women's champions GRA and Army Ghana, Sharkia, Delta and Kada Queens from Nigeria, Deliverance Church and Wananchi from Uganda have also confirmed their participation in the seven-day event.
